The district borders Ngawi in the north, City of Madiun and Madiun County in the east, Ponorogo, and Karanganyar and Wonogiri (both including Central Java province). Iswahyudi Airport, one of the main base for the Indonesian Air Force in East Indonesia, located in the district Maospati. Magetan consists of 19 districts( kecamatan), which consists of 208 villages ( desa/kelurahan) and 27 urban villages ( dusun). Magetan crossed by major highways-Madiun - Surabaya-Solo-Yogyakarta and railway lines across the southern island of Java, but the line is not crossed the capital Magetan. The only station located in the district Magetan West Station is located in the District of West. Lawu Mountain (3,265 m) located in the western part Magetan, which borders with Central Java. In mountainous areas, there are Sarangan Lake (1000 m asl), one of the mainstay attractions of this district, which is located in the tourist track Magetan-Sarangan-Tawangmangu-Karanganyar. Magetan known for leather (for footwear, jacket and bags), batik art-handmade, woven bamboo, rengginan cracker, and production pamelo (grapefruit) and lempengnya crackers made from rice.
